I just discovered this video (via Topless Robot) of Scott Hensey briefly discussing his experience and approach to sculpting toys. Like most people, I don’t know many of the artists behind the toys I buy, but it’s safe to say, some toy in your possession was sculpted by this guy. Seems like he’s touched every popular license from Batman to Mickey Mouse to Teenage Mutant Ninjas Turtles. Not only is Hensey a huge talent, but he’s seemingly humble and in it just to have fun and make cool stuff. I like that.
I’ll let the video speak for itself, but watching this thing definitely inspires me to start making some weirdo toys of my very own.
Really cool, although the music felt like it was his video obituary! The music is reminiscent of what’s playing in Return of the King when Frodo leaves Middle Earth forever. Yeesh.
Scott is an amazing guy and I recognized a LOT of his work. I’m dying to know if those nesting egg monsters ever got released and what they’re called, and I am SO jealous he has a prototype of Claw from Skeleton Warriors!
Yeah, I really love the nesting dolls too. So awesome. I love this guy and his work 😀
Great insights from a very humble man. Such a broad spectrum of work. The animal caricatures of big band artists, Dizzy and Miles, Very cool.
Yeah. Definitely. I’m amazed at his diversity and humility. I’m a fan!
Also, I like the new site.
Oh. thanks! It’s been a labor of love. I hope now that I can focus on the site more and bring you guys some cool toys to drool/puke over.
